    Absolutely delicious

Loved it! The meat was a good texture, I just wish there was more of it, the portion of meat was quite small for the price in my opinion, but the flavour of the stew is the real winner it’s absolutely divine!

Mutton Stew – a hearty, soul-warming dish that takes me straight back to the vibrant kitchens of Nigeria. Let me take you on a culinary journey, sharing the essence of this traditional delicacy, infused with culture and the warmth of home cooking.

Mutton Stew: A Taste of Nigerian Heritage

Mutton stew is a quiet celebration of flavour and tradition. In Nigeria, goat meat, known fondly as 'mutton', is a special ingredient. It's not something we'd have every day, but it sure takes centre stage during festive occasions like Sunday dinners and Thanksgiving.

This stew is a symphony of tomatoes, red bell peppers, fiery scotch bonnet (ata-rodo), and onions, all coming together to envelop the tender, juicy mutton. In Nigeria, we love our stew thick and rich, and that's exactly how we prepare our Goat Meat Stew at Afrisian.

The Art of Nigerian Mutton Stew

The secret to our stew? It's all in the stock and the simmering. We start by boiling the mutton with an array of spices and our special house seasoning. This is where the magic begins. The meat is then fried until it's beautifully golden, locking in all those gorgeous flavours.

Next up, we blend peppers, plum tomatoes, and onion into a smooth mix. Using the same oil that kissed the mutton, we cook this blend, stirring in the spices, salt, and seasoning cubes, along with the fried mutton. The stew is then left to simmer gently, allowing the oil to rise to the top – a sign of a perfectly cooked Nigerian stew.

From Generation to Generation

Growing up, preparing this stew was an all-day affair. I remember crushing tomatoes and peppers with a mortar and pestle – yes, it was as tedious as it sounds! Sometimes, we'd use a grinding stone for everything – peppers, beans, tomatoes, onions... you name it. On luckier days, we'd take these ingredients to the local mill for grinding – a small luxury in the extensive process of stew making.

How to Savour Afrisian's Mutton Stew

Our mutton stew is a lifesaver, versatile enough to pair with plain boiled rice, add a twist to jollof and fried rice, and even complement Nigerian soups like plain okra and ewedu. It's equally delectable with bread or yam.

In essence, Afrisian's Mutton Stew is more than just a dish; it's a story of culture, family, and the joy of sharing a meal that's been passed down through generations. It's not just food; it's a piece of heritage, lovingly prepared to bring a slice of Nigeria to your table.
